ST. MARYS, OHIO - Walter Aufderhaar, 88, of 320 Market St., St. Marys, died at 2:08 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 5, 1915, in Moulton, a son of William and Margaret (Roediger) Aufderhaar. On Feb. 2, 1947, he married Margaret Henkener, and she survives at the residence.
He is survived by three children, Jim (Sue) Aufderhaar of Columbus, Ron (Diane) Aufderhaar of Botkins and Joyce Aufderhaar of St. Marys; seven grandchildren, Scott Aufderhaar, Shawn Aufderhaar, Bryan Aufderhaar, Jill Pax, Brad Aufderhaar, Jennifer Brown and Molly Aufderhaar; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Sandridge of Greenfield, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin and Norman Aufderhaar; two infant brothers; and three sisters, Martha Palm, Dorothy Diamond and Leona Painter.
Mr. Aufderhaar attended Country School in Moulton and Wapakoneta High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Guadalcanal and Northern Solomons campaigns. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289 in St. Marys and the American Legion Heiland Post 446 in Anna.
He was retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, where memorial donations may be directed to St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
