ST. MARYS, OHIO - Elene J. (Helen) Stahr, 66, of Southmoor Shores, St. Marys died Sunday, August 31, 2003, at her brother's home in Northville, Mich., following an extended illness.
Stahr was born on March 11, 1937, in Staten Island, N.Y., to John and Penelopi Pappas. She married Bill G. Stahr, and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1998.
She is survived by her children David (Linda) Stahr, Dedra (Charles) Chinn and Susan (Alan) Thompson. She was the loving grandmother of Robin (Robert) Reidy, Amanda Stahr, Maggie Stahr and Erin Thompson and great-grandmother to Sydney Reidy. She is also survived by brothers Peter (Janet) Pappas and Dr. George (Carole) Pappas and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stahr was an elementary teacher in the St. Marys City Schools for 26 years, giving special help to students in reading and math. She was an active member of the Parent-Teacher Organization and the St. Marys Education Association, serving on the Negotiation Team. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and served as treasurer.
Mrs. Stahr worked with her husband for many years as Amway Distributors and also established Stahr Video Productions in 1982. She was a supporter of the Auglaize and Mercer Counties Convention and Visitors Bureau and took pride in presenting the annual "Stahr Award".
Calling hours are scheduled for 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Northrup-Sassaman Fun-eral Home in Northville, Mich. Trisagion Service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church in Farmington Hills, Mich. Burial will follow at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville, Mich.
Memorial contributions may be made to the HOSTS Program at West Elementary in St. Marys.
A memorial service for Mrs. Stahr will be held in St. Marys at a later date.
