Lee R. Schmehl

ST. MARYS, OHIO - Lee R. Schmehl, 75, of West Oliver Street in St. Marys, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born March 15, 1928 in St. Marys, to Vernon and Ireta (Ralston) Schmehl.

He married Dolores Etter on Nov. 20, 1948. She survives at the residence.

He is survived by seven children, Mrs. Vickie (Wesley) Lewis of Lima, Mrs. Lee Ann (Kurtis) Jenkins of St. Marys, Mrs. Kristine (Jerry) Freels of New Bremen, Mrs. Ireta (Jeffrey) Hegemier of Hudson, Jerry Schmehl of St. Marys, Bruce (Carol) Schmehl of St. Marys and Tony (Renee) Schmehl of St. Marys.; one brother, David (Jean) Schmehl of St. Marys, one sister, Mrs. Wilda Miars of St. Marys; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry Schmehl and one grandchild.

He was a 1947 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Seabees and served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys after 22 years of service.

He was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in St. Marys. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed woodworking and camping.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale Mangen will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Ritas Hospice.
