Charles "Shorty" Williams

ST. MARYS, OHIO - Charles "Shorty" Williams, Sr., 70, of 697 Gordon Grove in St. Marys died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the home of his daughter following an extended illness.

He was born June 16, 1933, in Van Wert, to Ira and Zelma (Hammond) Williams.

He married Dorothy Lindeman on March 16, 1957; she preceded him in death on June 29, 1992.

Mr. Williams is survived by seven children: Mrs. Connie (Lewis) Blosser, Dianne Cotterman (and fiance Brian Hitchen) and Mrs. Vickie (Terry) Fowler, all of St. Marys; Mrs. Cindy (Tim) Smith of Celina; Chuck (and Tammy Burkholder) Williams and Danny Williams, both of Decatur, Ind.; and Tony (Stacy) Williams of Shelby, N.C. He is also survived by a former daughter-in-law Cora Diane Williams of Celina; a former son-in-law Darrell Bayman of St. Marys; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Ackerman of Spencerville and Betty Snyder of Clyde.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Williams, Paul Williams and Clarence Williams; two sisters, Clarabelle Williams and Marjorie Williams; his parents and a son-in-law, Bob Cotterman.

Mr. Williams was a former volunteer at the Mercer County Council on Aging and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a great fan and friend of singer Loretta Lynn.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home located at 314 W. High St. in St. Marys. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Darke-Mercer Hospice.
