ST. MARYS, OHIO - Ruth L. Nelson, 89, formerly of 302 Sturgeon St. in St. Marys, died at 8:57 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at the Gardens of Celina.
She was born Oct. 19, 1913, in St. Marys to Charles and Bertha (Cantwil) Garwick.
She married Ermel Nelson on May 10, 1952, and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1975.
She is survived by one nephew, Charles (Wilma) Garwick of Troy; two nieces, Mrs. Deb (Gary) Zuhl of Troy and Mrs. Peggy (Roger) Barton of Barrie, Ontario, Ca.; sister-in-law Mrs, Juanita Garwick of Troy; seven grand-nieces and nephews; seven great-grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Garwick; and two sisters, Louetta Garwick and Martha Wierwille.
Mrs. Nelson was a 1931 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She was a supervisor at the former St. Marys Woolen Mill and she then worked at Hunter Printing in St. Marys. She was an active volunteer at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, where she was head of the Women's Guild for 11 years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, at 314 W. High St. in St. Marys. The Rev. Ed Groff will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home, where memorial contributions may be directed to the Wayne Street United Methodist Church.
