Shirley K. Orick

ST. MARYS, OHIO - Shirley K. Orick, 76, of St. Marys died at home at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, following an extended illness. She was surrounded by her sons, grandson, sisters, daughter-in-law, niece and hospice caregiver.

During the months preceding her death, she received great comfort, inner peace and medical care from her devoted sister, Mary Ruffner, and her niece, Kim Yarbrough, who left their homes in Illinois to care for her. Shirley also cherished visits by her sisters Sally Fredericks and Bertha Bradley, nieces Tami Martin and Cynthia Mosson, and numerous other family and friends.

Mrs. Orick was born June 5, 1927 in Kane Creek, Ky., to Allen Roller and Angeline Goley Roller. She moved to St. Marys in 1952 and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in 1973. She was an active member of the Missionary Baptist Church in St. Marys.

Shirley is survived by her sons, James (Debbie) Orick of Dixon, Calif. and Christopher Crick of Sidney; her grandsons, James "Tyler" Orick of Dixon, Calif., and Gabriel M. Orick of St. Marys, who is now stationed in Germany; sisters Mary Ruffner of Chicago, Sally Fredericks of Indiana, and Bertha Bradley and Sandy Bruns, both of St. Marys; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Orick was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Earl Orick, who died in 1987; two infant sons, Jerry Orick, who died in 1948 and Floyd David Orick, who died in 1949; and two brothers, Raymond "Clayton" Roller of St. Marys and John Allen Roller of Baltimore, Md.

She will be remembered for her love, forgiveness, patience and devotion to those she met. Those wishing to honor her can do so by offering acts of daily compassion and kindness to others.

A short memorial message will be given at the end of church services this Sunday, from 11 to 12:30, at St. Marys Missionary Baptist Church. The family requests no flowers.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Celina Visiting Nurses and Hospice or St. Marys Missionary Baptist Church, 04990 County Road 33A.
