ST. MARYS, OHIO - Zachary Meeker, the 18-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meeker of Montezuma, Ohio was the First Place prize winner in the 8th Annual Duck Race held here on August 13.
The Meekers were on vacation when they received word of Zach's prize. "We had entered Zach in a contest at the Mercer County Fair a week ago," Zach's father Robert remarked. "When we heard he'd won a prize, we thought at first it was from that. I never dreamed he'd win the car."
Zach, with mom and dad, collected his big prize Saturday, August 19, at Larry Schaaf Auto Sales, Inc., owned and operated by Larry and Michelle Schaaf of St. Marys. The Schaafs have sponsored the first place Duck Race prize for three consecutive years.
The winner, sporting a new "Lucky Duck" tee shirt, was more interested in a toy football than in the 5.0 liter V-8 Mustang GT he had won, but he cooperated with the photographers and enjoyed the presentation.
The Duck Race is a fundraising event held annually at the St. Marys SummerFest to benefit K.C. Geiger Park, a large public recreational facility in St. Marys.
