St. Marys Community Foundation Established New Fund
ST. MARYS, OHIO - The Trustees of the St. Marys Community Foundation are very pleased to announce the receipt of a gift from John Frederick Noble, of Columbus, Ohio, for the benefit of the Mooney Museum of the Auglaize County Historical Association..
The purpose of the gift is to give the income to the Auglaize County Historical Society for the upkeep and maintenance of the Mooney Museum. The principal may be used if it becomes necessary to construct a new museum provided it shall be located in the St. Marys City School District.
John Frederick Noble was born and raised in St. Marys, Ohio, the son of Stafford S. and Alma (Helmstetter) Noble. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1944 where he was a star football player and later continued his interest in sports, becoming an accomplished tennis player, coach and tennis official. His father was the owner and operator of the first artificial ice manufacturing plant in St. Marys and descendent of early settlers and pioneer families of Auglaize County.
Alma Noble, his mother, was a dear friend of Carrie Bettelini, who was the grantor of the Mooney residence, now occupied by the museum on South Main Street. Through the years Mr. Noble has maintained a great interest in our city and has continued his interest in the history of the Noble family from the pioneer days when the area was fist settled. In the past he has made various physical gifts of items of interest to the museum. His gift will be a tremendous boost for the continuance of the service of the museum in our community.
Frederick and his wife, Kathryn Noble reside in Columbus. They are the parents of three sons; one of them is deceased.
