Burton Andrews shoots the 2005 St. Marys-Sidney game. |
Burton Andrews has provided the online photos of Roughrider Football since the 1997 season, when his photos illustrated the "Biased Weekly Updates" of the games posted by Chris Botkin, years before the debut of Ridertown.com.
But Andrews was recording the action of St. Marys sports long before that. A long-time stringer for area newspapers, his freelance work dates to the early 1970's, and he has been a fixture on the sidelines of 'Rider events of all sports ever since. Burton Andrews, his wife Lyndella and their daughter Hannah comprise Andrews Photography, providing the St. Marys area with wedding, school, sports and specialty photographic services.
In 1995, Burton published "The History of Roughrider Football 1912-1994," a rich photographic history of the first 75 years of the St. Marys gridiron tradition.
Hundreds of photographs chronicle the rise of Roughrider Football year-by-year; from 1898 newspaper rumors (but no results - football was frowned upon as a roughneck activity), to the first organized St. Marys High School team in 1912, to Skip's first season in 1958 (4-5), all the way to three state championships in the 1990s. With extensively researched articles by David Helmstetter and Ridertown News Editor David Stilwell, all the records and rosters and an index of every player for 75 years, "History" is a must-have reference for every Roughrider fan.
Ridertown is pleased to provide our visitors Andrews Photography photos of Roughrider Football with our description of the games.
